Did you know?

The emerald was mined in Egypt as early as 330 BC, but some estimate that the oldest emeralds are 2.97 billion years old.

Cleopatra is perhaps the most famous historical figure to cherish emeralds. She even claimed ownership of all emerald mines in Egypt during her reign.

The Egyptians used emeralds both in jewelry, and in their elaborate burials, often burying emeralds with monarchs as symbols of protection.

On the other side of the world, the Muzo Indians of Colombia had well-hidden and prized emerald mines. These mines were so hidden, it took the Spanish conquistadors nearly twenty years to find them.

It's April! Diamond is this months birthstone, and it coincides with our April trip to Antwerp, Belgium.

Diamonds have a long history as beautiful objects of desire. In the first century AD, the Roman naturalist Pliny stated: “Diamond is the most valuable, not only of precious stones, but of all things in this world.”

Today, Antwerp is the worlds diamond hub. It's where 84% of the world's rough diamonds are passed through, and where the Timmreck & McNicol team travels for better deals on your dream diamond, while also ensuring that it's conflict free. Do you have a specific shape in mind? How about a particular color? There is a lot to consider when choosing your diamond, and we are here to help.

So, come on down. Ask our jewelers any questions you may have about diamonds, Antwerp pricing, or mountings to set your diamond into. We can save our customers an average of 40% on diamonds through Antwerp, and our quotes are always free.

This pendant is a part of the Galatea DavinChi Cut Collection. It features a patented gemstone cut that absorbs the color of its surroundings. The creation of this amazing jewelry was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's call to, “Be a mirror, absorb everything around you and still remain the same".

Pictured is our 14k white gold, Topaz, DavinChi pendant. Beneath the centered Topaz, rests three melee stones;
Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. These tiny gems provide a wonderful display of color inside the Topaz. What do you think?

Did you know that the Smithsonian houses a massive Aquamarine, called the Dom Pedro? This Aquamarine was cut from an enormous Aquamarine found in the Minas Gerais region of Brazil. The quality of the original crystal and its size, exquisite blue-green color and distinctive cut make it an exceptionally rare gem.

BEFORE cutting, the portion of the beryl crystal from which the obelisk-shaped gem was fashioned measured 23.25 inches long and weighed nearly 60 pounds. The obelisk, designed by world-renowned gem artist Bernd Munsteiner, stands 14 inches tall, measures 4 inches across the base and weighs in at 10,363 carats or 4.6 pounds. The lozenge-shaped cuts in the back of the obelisk reflect light such that the crystal seems to glow from within.

Munsteiner spent four months meticulously studying the crystal and an additional six months carving, polishing and faceting to create this unmatched work of art. Munsteiner, the “Father of the Fantasy Cut,” is considered one of the greatest gem artists of the 20th century. He combines traditional methods with dynamic modern forms to create gem sculptures.

For those lucky enough to have been born in March, two birthstones are associated with this early spring month: Aquamarine and Bloodstone.

Aquamarine invokes the tranquility of its namesake, the sea. In fact, the name aquamarine is derived from the Latin word aqua, meaning water, and marina, meaning the sea.

Bloodstone, a dark-green stone flecked with vivid red spots of iron oxide, is also known as Heliotrope, a word from ancient Greek that means “to turn the sun.” Many believed it was probably named such because of ancient ideas about how minerals reflect light. In fact, some believed that the sun itself would turn red if this stone was put into water.

Valentine's Day roses began as a tradition in the 17th century, since roses, which represent love in all its forms, were the flowers of choice for the day. The rose is supposed to be the favorite flower of Venus, the Goddess of Love, because it stood for strong feelings.

Timmreck & McNicol Jewelers carries a wide variety of lacquer dipped, gold trimmed roses. Each rose is individually dipped in 24kt gold, or lacquered and trimmed in 24kt gold. Natural roses are used in this process, and the lacquer protects their natural beauty. These flowers make a unique gift that will be enjoyed for many years to come.
